Our Practices
At Calder Farm, we use sustainable, regenerative agricultural practices with all of our produce and animals. We practice holistic management and are happy to show you around the farm so you can see how we grow. We are not certified organic; however, we utilize regenerative and sustainable practices to ensure we are providing the healthiest options for our landscapes, livestock, family, and customers.
We grow our food at various sites around the Gunnison Valley. Our animals are rotationally grazed at different leased pastures and wintered on pasture still. We work alongside Coldharbour in its mission to educate our community on sustainable living practices. Our vegetables are located on the VanTuyl property, as a lease through the City of Gunnison.
We have a herd of various heritage and heritage-cross breed hogs selected for their grazing ability, cold-hardiness, and meat production (especially bacon).
We have narrowed it down to a few varieties of vegetable crops that do well in our cold growing climate and will store over winter. In 2023, we will offer six varieties of onions, two varieties of carrots, broccoli, and romaine lettuce.
